FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT SWIMMING WITH MANATEES

  • We require a 7 day notice on cancellations in order to receive a refund. This will ensure that we can rebook your seat since our policy is to only allow 12 persons per trip.

  • To ensure comfort for our passengers and the tranquility of the manatees we only schedule up to 15 persons on our 24 passenger tour boat. Our Ultimate Manatee tour is equipped with covered houseboats and accommodates only 6 persons on each tour.

  • Yes, our associate is a certified PADI instructor.

  • There are no age limits, just the ability to swim.

  • The water temperature in the Crystal River and Homosassa River is a constant 72 degrees year around. This may seem warm but prolonged exposure could result in hypothermia. Therefore we recommend a wetsuit.

  • Manatee tours last approximately 3-3.5 hours.

  • You can change into a wetsuit in our shop. Additionally we have a curtained area on the boat that can be closed off to ensure privacy while changing.

  • Bathing suit and towel. A sweat suit is recommended for after the swim.

  • I’ve never snorkeled before. Your captain or mate will assist you in the water. For most it only takes a few minutes to become accustomed to snorkeling.

  • The Homosassa River averages 3-10 feet deep. The Crystal River is somewhat deeper.

  • Yes, it sometimes seems the manatees are posing for you. See Manatee Photos from one of our guests.

Things To Do In Crystal River And Homosassa Springs, FL

We’ve put together some interesting activities hoping to make your visit to Crystal River fun and entertaining. Of course the most fun you will have is on your Manatee Tour with Manatee Swim Center

  • Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park- Located 20 minutes from our location. Filled with animals all native to Florida. A must-see when visiting the area.

  • Crystal River Archaeological Park- Just 2 miles northwest of downtown and located on the Crystal River.

  • Crystal River Mini Golf- Just south of Homosassa off of US-19, filled with bargains that gift shops dont offer!

  • Mertailor- Explore interactive touch tanks and dive into the world of marine life at Lecanto’s Mertailor Mermaid experience! Just a short 20 minute drive from Manatee Swim Center.

  • Dames Caves - Part of the Withlacoochee Forest, this is a great hiking trail for all ages to enjoy! The trailhead is located in Lecanto, about 30 minutes from the Swim Center.

  • Crystal River Splash Pad - Located in the heart of downtown Crystal River, this is a perfect area for the littles to play!

Winter unveils the ideal time to embark on a manatee tour, as the Gulf of Mexico's waters adopt a soothing temperature range of 58-66 degrees Fahrenheit. Nestled near coastal Homosassa and Crystal River, the shallow rivers maintain a consistent warmth of 72 degrees year-round, serving as a magnet for these gentle behemoths. Manatees, with their distinctive blend of seal and cow-like features, leisurely navigate the tranquil waters, creating a serene atmosphere perfect for close encounters.

At Manatee Swim Center, we curate an immersive experience, equipping you with everything necessary for an unforgettable adventure, from snug wetsuits to essential snorkeling gear. Whether you opt for an intimate private excursion or join a small group tour of up to 15 fellow enthusiasts, our priority remains fostering a respectful and intimate interaction with these majestic creatures. Spend a minimum of two hours wading and swimming alongside the manatees, as our tours, averaging three hours, ensure ample time to bask in the magic of these gentle giants.
